Scoring

How blank is scored

Five points a drawing. Being right earns most of it. Being fast earns the rest.

The five points

Every drawing is worth 5.00. Naming it correctly earns 72% of that — 3.60 — no matter how long you took. The remaining 28% scales with the time left on the clock when you locked in. Answer instantly and you get the full five; answer as the timer hits zero and you keep 3.60. A wrong answer scores nothing, and so does saying nothing.

What counts as naming it

Spelling is forgiven. Plurals, articles and transposed letters are forgiven — aple, appel, an apple and apples all count as apple. Sensible alternatives are accepted: bike for bicycle, torch for flashlight, dino for dinosaur.

What is never forgiven is one real word becoming a different real word. Horse does not score house. Cat does not score car. That line is the whole difference between a matcher that feels generous and one that feels fake.

Why the number can be trusted

When you post a score, the round travels to the server, not the score. The server rebuilds the exact round from its seed — the same words, the same figures — marks it again itself, and stores the number it worked out. Claiming a perfect fifty with ten wrong answers stores a zero.

The one thing the server cannot see is your clock, because only your browser watched it. So the timer reading is clamped to the range it could possibly have been in: a forged clock can buy the speed bonus and never the point itself.
